위 구절에서 eat of it가 들어간 문장을 분석한다.

(2) You / eat // of it.
-> You / are of it.(×)

위 문장은 2형이다. 일반동사 eat 대신에 be 동사를 대치할 경우 의미 있는  문장이 성립하지 않기 때문이다.
이러한 문장은 성경에서 8군데나 발견된다.

그러면 위 두 문장의 차이는 무엇일까?
지금까지 누구도 이에 대한 설명을 한 사람이 없다.
나의 설명은 eat 뒤에 it 가 오든지 of+it가 오든지 구문상으로 같은 (2)형에 포함된다는 것이다. 의미상으로 of it의 경우 it에 비해 eat의 동작의 결과도 추가된다는 느낌을 주지만 즉 it가 주어에 체화되다는 의미, 즉 it가 주어의 일부분이 되다는 뉴앙스가 추가되어 있으나 양자는 의미상 큰 차이없이 사용된다. 위 열거한 두 가지 형태의 예문들을  비교해 보라.

여기서 얻은 결론은 eat 뒤에 it가 오는 경우  eat의 목적어가 됨은 물론이거니와 전치사구 of+it가 오는 경우에도 eat의 목적어가 된다는 것이다. 즉 2진법영어에는 명사/대명사 뿐 아니라 전치사구도 목적어가 될 수 있다는 것이다.
