According to the New York Times of May 25, 2004, North Korea's news agency demanded last week that South Korea end tours of tunnels that North Korea built, largely in the 1970's, under the Demilitarized Zone. North Korea called the tours "an unpardonable grave political provocation."

The Monthly Chosun of Korea published that Kim JI has imported 300,000 suits of military uniforms of South Korea through Hong Kong for this very purpose.

According to the US military intelligence in South Korea, more than 20 secret underground tunnels might have been built. If such an infiltration tunnel exists, every military base of the S. Korean troops as well as the U.S. troops might be the objects of a surprise attack from a N. Korean special army group. In fact, all of the soldiers at bases would be in great danger of being killed or captured by N. Korean soldiers coming out of such invasion underground tunnels. This is the scenario Kim Jong Il has been hoping for and dreaming.
